The Company is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their team. The successful candidate will be the primary legal advisor for the branch, providing commercially focused legal counsel, managing regulatory risk, and supporting business growth across various banking sectors. This role is pivotal in aligning local regulatory standards with the expectations of the Head Office, particularly in a cross-border foreign banking environment. Responsibilities include overseeing the full spectrum of legal matters, from the drafting and negotiation of complex financial documentation to designing and maintaining legal risk operating models and internal control frameworks. The role also involves direct management of external legal counsel, litigation, and regulatory inquiries, as well as close collaboration with compliance, risk, financial crime, and overseas stakeholders. Applicants must be admitted as a solicitor to practice law in Australia, with a minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm, major financial institution, or international corporate environment. Deep knowledge of Australian banking and financial services law, regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, and corporate governance is essential. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in foreign or Asian corporate banking structures, cross-border transactional environments, and Head Office reporting lines. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills are required, with a proven ability to advise senior executives and simplify complex legal concepts for commercial stakeholders. Proficiency in Mandarin is a bonus.
